Volumetric Weight Calculator
Estimate volumetric weight, actual weight and chargeable weight for international express and air freight shipments.
Total volumetric weight
Total actual weight
Chargeable weight (greater of the two)
Volumetric weight
Light but bulky cartons take up cargo space. Carriers convert the carton volume into a weight using a divisor, commonly 5000 or 6000.
Actual vs. chargeable
The carrier compares actual gross weight with volumetric weight and bills the greater of the two as the chargeable weight.
Confirm with your carrier
Divisors, rounding steps and minimum charges differ by carrier and service. Please confirm the rules with your forwarder before booking.
Shipping FAQ
What is volumetric weight?
Volumetric weight (also called dimensional weight) converts the space a package occupies into an equivalent weight, so that bulky, light goods are billed fairly.
Which divisor should I use, 5000 or 6000?
It depends on the carrier and service. Express couriers commonly use 5000 and many air freight services use 6000. Ask your carrier or forwarder for the exact value.
Do I measure the product or the carton?
Measure the outer dimensions of the final packed carton, including packaging, at the longest point of each side.
How is the chargeable weight decided for multiple cartons?
This calculator multiplies the per-piece values by the number of pieces for a quick estimate. Some carriers compare weights per carton and round each one, so the final bill may differ.
