Chargeable weight rules
How carriers usually decide what you pay for. Always confirm the divisor and rounding rules with your forwarder or courier.
Volumetric weight
Length × Width × Height in cm, divided by the divisor. Most express services use 5000 and many air freight quotes use 6000. Bulky, light goods such as bath bomb sets or soap dishes often fall into this case.
Actual weight
The real gross weight of the packed carton, including products, inner packs and outer carton. Dense goods such as bar soap, bath salts or cleaning tablets are often billed on actual weight.
Chargeable weight
Carriers bill the larger of volumetric and actual weight. Rounding steps (for example 0.5 kg) and minimum charges vary by carrier, so treat this tool as an estimate.
Shipping FAQ
What is volumetric weight?
Volumetric (dimensional) weight converts the space a parcel occupies into a weight value. Carriers use it because light but bulky cargo uses up aircraft or truck space without adding much real weight.
How do I choose between divisor 5000 and 6000?
Use the divisor written in your carrier or forwarder quotation. Many express couriers use 5000, while many air freight and consolidated services use 6000. A smaller divisor gives a higher volumetric weight.
Should I measure the carton before or after packing?
Measure the final outer carton or pallet as it will be handed over, including any bulge. Carriers measure the largest point of each side.
Which products are usually billed by volume?
Light and bulky items such as gift sets, packaged bath bomb sets, scented candles in decorative boxes or soap holders often reach volumetric weight. Dense products such as bar soap, soap base or bath salts are more often billed on actual weight.
How can I reduce the chargeable weight?
Reduce empty space in the carton, choose a size that fits the products, or ask your supplier about carton layout and packing options. For private label orders, packaging design can be adjusted at the planning stage.
Is the result a shipping quote?
No. This calculator only estimates weight. Final freight cost depends on the carrier, route, rounding rules, surcharges and the shipping terms you agree on. Contact us for details on your order.
